Accessibility: Reclaimed timbers are extremely difficult to source in the desired dimensions and species, and the sources are often inconsistent and unreliable.
Dimensional stability: Reclaimed timbers usually come from old barns or grain elevators and are often a century old. Those original timbers had large variances in their cross sections and have since shrunk, twisted or cracked over decades.
Cost: Reclaimed timbers are not only very expensive to source, but it is also very time consuming to joint them properly. It is much easier and better to build with dimensionally square timbers.

The uniqueness of this project certainly lies in it’s complicated structure, which has no right angles and every single timber frame member has a compound/miter cut. It is also unique because of its minimalistic design. 600 sft on the main floor and 350 sft loft space and a very economical and efficient design.

The envelope of this project was completed with the Enerficient Panel System, an in-house designed an pre-fabricated, moisture permeable yet very air tight system that is manufactured solemly out of sustainabel, off-gazing free materials.
